Wessel’s definition of infant excessive crying is often used: crying for at least three hours per day for at least three days per week, and at least for three weeks in a row. However, up to 20% of infants cry excessively. Crying is part of normal infant behavior and plays an important role in the mutual regulation between infant and parent.
